I recently reviewed Derby-based quartet WhiteMoor’s album and I was very impressed with their fun filled summertime anthems. Their eagerly anticipated third single, “Who We Are,” which is a follow up to this album was released on the 17th August on Sound-Hub Records. This coincided with the band’s UK tour throughout August, and rightly, their album taster party took place at the Victoria Inn in their home town of Derby.

“Who We Are” begins with an absolutely brilliant intro. I love the synths, and the guitars just work perfectly to create an upbeat, bouncy summer anthem. Definitely something I would listen to again…heck, I could listen to it all day! Benny’s rasping vocals remind me a little bit of Lee McMahon’s from epically exciting Sheffield band, The Tivoli, and like The Tivoli, WhiteMoor definitely capture that immense stadium sound with their music. I’ve not had the chance to see this band live yet, and I’d imagine from this track and everything else on their album, they’d definitely get a good reception. I have to say, even from the first listen of “Who We Are,” I was blown away, straight from the intro…and do you know why? Because this band have got it; whatever it is, they’ve got it. They can fuse old school Britpop with swirly guitar sounds and just to give them that extra oomph, they use synths to create a wonderful summery feel to their tracks and it sounds absolutely brilliant. I like bands who can go out there and take risks…sometimes they pay off and sometimes they don’t, but with this band, almost everything I’ve heard from them shows that they have potential and they can take risks and they do pay off. This new single just proves it. Best song I’ve heard from them so far. Keep it up, guys!
