Having reviewed a track of his earlier in the year, we at Scenester thought it only fair to catch this fairly recent track of his and see how Vex One has moved on. Previously he has collaborated with Playground Mafia as well as supporting some big name acts such as Tinchy Stryder and playing at the ‘Love Music Hate Racism’ Magna gig (brought together by John McClure). Writing, recording and mixing his own material is beginning to pay off for him as he is working his way to releasing an EP later in the year.
Listening to the brilliantly catchy sound of the music in the track, ‘I Got Master’, it literally sounds like an incredible blend of some currently popular genres – R&B, dance and electro pop all rolled into one! The intro sounds a lot like the track ‘If We Meet Again’ by Timbaland and Katy Perry because of the pumping sound instantly hooking you followed by the beat kicking in seconds later. After that, it is basically synthesized melodic choruses all the way like Mr Hudson’s ‘Everything Is Broken’. This makes the entire song quite multi layered, typical as a lot of its commercial equivalent that is spread across the charts of late. Vocally the song is split into two basic styles, firstly a free styling hip hop rant throughout every verse, whilst its chorus is delivered at a more sedate pace chanting the line “It’s going off tonight”, these lyrics with the music added to them create a vibrant party atmosphere.
Personally I found this track a lot easier to listen to than his previous track as it does have an instantly contagious rhythm that is held well through the entire length of the song. If his music progresses like this than the promised forthcoming EP should be something worth waiting for!
