"Take Off" is not Nem's & Vex One's first collaborative effort, but of the songs they have worked on together, it is certainly their most
commercial and catchy offering to date! Boasting a hard edged contemporary electro sound with a big clubby feel just itching to kick-start
the summer!
Spawned from an idea which had manifested itself in Nem, the song then came to fruition thanks to the versatile production skills of Vex One and eventually evolved into a collaborative effort vocally also with both artists expressing their love for the club and having a good time in their verses, while Nem handles the infectiously catchy chorus and Vex One offering the hard-hitting first verse and the simple but effective bridge in place of a 3rd verse... as a whole, the song expresses the desire to live in the fast lane and their love for it,
while enjoying it so much that you could literally "Take Off"!!!
Essentially Nem & Vex one are solo artists, over the 5 years they have known each other they have performed at many of the same gigs and events, opening for various household names such as Chipmunk, Example, Wiley, Reverend & The Makers, Kaiser Chiefs, Lethal Bizzle, Ironik, Bashy, Akala, Roll Deep, Skinnyman... and on multiple occasions Tinchy Stryder, who they supported on part of his 2009 UK tour.
They have also received similar amounts of exposure through the local media, and are often collaborative songwriters, albeit not always both featuring vocally on the final product... However, in this case, regardless of their very different styles, they feel that their differences compliment each other and add to the new track which could potentially appeal to a wider audience while maintaining its harder edge.
We at Sheffield Scenester would like to congratulate Michael Young, better known as Mickelmas around town, for all the hard work he put into the Hair Raiser event, getting the bands on board, arranging the DJ’s as well as having Iain Hodgson and special guest Jon Windle to support the cause. With a huge attendance down at the O2 the total sum raised was £1,137.63, all going to the Little Princess Trust which provides real hair wigs to children suffering hair loss due to cancer treatment.
Mickelmas, renowned for his pony-tail as well as his photography, volunteered to have his illustrious locks not only cropped but completely shaved off. A raffle was held to see who would cut his tail while the honour of shaving his head was given to the person who donated the highest single amount. The latter prize went to a woman called Abigail, who got up on stage to tackle his pony-less mop, unfortunately it was a lot tougher going than originally anticipated and so had to be finished off backstage!
But at the end of the day Mickelmas is now sporting the ‘Vin Diesel’ look, already on facebook it has been suggested he go out and buy some sun-block, all for a worthy cause!
Mickelmas said "I just like to say thankyou to you all for your support and commitment which helped make last night a huge success.
Last night was the biggest achievement of my entire life and thats been down to you all."

Always eager to try new things, we at Sheffield Scenester were more than happy to except Denzil’s invitation to co-host The Indie Hour on Sheffield Live and talk about all manner of things to do with the local music scene. As instructed we came armed with a couple of CD’s…..originally it was three but one didn’t play at all so we made do with a choice of twelve tracks. Prior to this we’ve only done quick guest slots with Iain Hodgson, this on the other hand was a whole two hour show…scary…..but with Denzil at the helm it worked out fine!
Okay so we may have started off a bit nervously….but we soon got the hang of it (sort of) and in all honesty, chatting away while the music played just seemed to turn it into more of a regular night out down the pub. Picking a selection of Sheffield based bands; we aired Section 60, Hey Sholay, Skint & Demoralised, Reverend & The Makers, Curry Quiche, Elephant Keys amongst others. Due to the disc that didn’t work we never got to hear Alvarez Kings, Driftrun or The Cartels…..never mind maybe next time!
