Leigh and Adam Greenwood, aka Sheffield’s Low Duo, are back with their third EP. The EP of Truth and Regret is the latest instalment in the Low Duo saga, following The EP of Fear and Failure released in May 2011 and their debut The EP of Hope and Despair.

Though their music retains its heartrending and poignant quality, they have come on leaps and bounds since their first EP, with the songs showing a developing intimacy and the vocals and guitar becoming even further entwined.

The opening track ‘Ambulance’ tells the dramatic, unconventional love story of a paramedic who was unable to save the victim of a motorway accident. The song, though just short of three minutes in length, really captures the emotion of the story whilst retaining delicate eccentricity, showcasing the talents of Adam and Leigh both musically and lyrically.

‘In Our Little House’ and ‘Sleep Alone’ are more reminiscent of Low Duo’s previous work. The minimalism of both tracks and in particular the melancholy of ‘Sleep Alone’ harks back to some of their earlier work. The fourth track on the EP, ‘Secret Matters of The Heart’ breaks slightly from tradition being played on bass guitar and incorporating echoing harmonies but the sentiment and the emotion of the song remains the same. The poetic lyrics, though based on the common subjects of love and relationships, are enchantingly refreshing, putting Low Duo a cut above the rest.

The final track ‘Waltz With Her’ is the haunting and captivating tale of the relationship between two dancers. The eerie quality to the song gives it a certain fragility that sets it apart from the other tracks and provides a stunning and evocative round off to the EP.
