Back in late August we happened to bump into Kat Eaton and Nick Atkinson from the band Feelix, at the time they were between sets down at Leopold Square and playing under the name Badge. Obviously not having seen them for quite some time we grabbed a couple of minutes to say hello and with what seemed like a lot of developments on the horizon for them we agreed to arrange an interview at some point.
Fast forward to October 28th and finally we get to meet down at Steelworks Recording Studios, a place I’d never been before and so being unaware of its location was informed its opposite Spearmint Rhino’s. The last interview I did was with Ripoff Britain and I had to find a sex shop to meet up with them, at this rate I’ll know Sheffield’s seedier side like the back of my hand. Anyway that little observation aside, I finally met Nick and he took me through to the studio that he and Kat were using.
Setting up the video shoot took some time; I really should buy a portable lighting rig, as the overhead bulb had a mind of its own and kept going out on us. Just when we thought it was sorted and everything was ready…..’blink’……it went out, eventually it did settle down, but half way through filming it did it again....anyway by then it was too late, so apologies for the sudden loss of lighting in the film!
Finally we were all sat comfortably and with the camera rolling we began our chat, Nick and Kat obviously talked about what was happening with the band Feelix itself as well as the work they have done setting up a music school, a subject they both seem quite passionate about. There was news of the upcoming gig at The Library Theatre supporting Emily Ireland with her EP launch as well as a few words on their album. Towards the end they suggested that they do a song and so I was treated to one of their more recent compositions ‘The Lucky One’, a very emotive song and a change in direction from the material that we’ve become accustomed to hearing from them.
With that we wrapped everything up and said our goodbyes, they kindly escorted me out of the building, I’m afraid to say I kinda got a bit lost by myself. So with many thanks to both Kat and Nick for their time as well as Steelworks Studios for the use of their facilities, here are two videos, one with the interview and the other with the acoustic version of ‘The Lucky One’…..enjoy!
