(02 Academy Review Cont....)
Next up was the 48K’s who started off with a song called ‘Back Seat Driver’ and carried on playing one great song after another. The highlight was during the show when I received my free badge and CD off one of the GAGs (girlfriends and groupies lol). I have to say...my favourite song by them and probably my favourite individual song of the night is ‘Cotton Wool’, and it was certainly well introduced! They really performed up to the crowd...who were ‘whoooing’ so loudly it almost over powered the speakers! When they had finished the crowd was in such outburst I thought they were going to start chanting One More!?
While waiting to speak to the band I got talking to Jay the manager and the GAGs and I have to say....they are so friendly and cheery, a credit to you guys!
Mini Interview with the band!
Who are they?
The 48K’s = A Doncaster group (of 24 – 31’s) who have been together two years now, they certainly have youthful looks on their side! Their influences are The who and The kinks. They are next playing at Doncaster Live on the 3rd September.

It was The lines turn to take to the stage...they started off dark and moody, then jumped straight in with a mix mash...quite a heavy tune....almost like dance music with its flow. Even when they went into the next song it sounds almost like someone’s mixing vinyl! They certainly get my award for best performance. At times I found Alex’s voice sounding similar to that of Bono’s (U2). They are showy, moody, almost enchanting....and can certainly carry a rift till next Tuesday! Then they switch back to something a little dancey. My favourite song of theirs was one called ‘Loudmouth’, at which point Alex puts down his guitar (what no! pick it up this instance) and starts playing some percussion. Well I never....Mr Multitalented! I have to say...he really goes for it and even has a go on Paddy’s drums.....Hope paddy doesn’t mind!
Mini Interview with the band!
Who are they?
The Lines are often described as an indie band....but defiantly don’t adhere to it! To say they were the smallest band they certainly had the most impact. Their influences include The Beatles, Rolling Stones and Alex likes to mix in some dance themes. From Dudley in Wolverhampton, this band of four years are certainly a must see. They have a tour coming up and are visiting Sheffield. So get down to The Plug on the 2nd October. But if you want to hear them first, you can down load their latest single Circles for free at

And now it’s the main event, Section 60. The lead singer looks like he’s taken a leaf out of Noel Gallagher’s wardrobe, but can definitely pull it off better! They are mellower than the other bands played tonight. My preferred song has to be (Which i think was called) ‘Thanks A Lot’. It was obvious that Section 60 were the crowd’s top choice....Someone even got escorted off stage after climbing up, tut tut naughty naughty!
